WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Lycoming College 57, Delaware Valley College 47
WILLIAMSPORT (PA) – Delaware Valley College's first game in nine days saw the Aggies drop a 57-47, non-conference decision to host Lycoming College in the first round of the Hoops for Hounds Classic.
Delaware Valley, which will take on Case Western Reserve University on Monday afternoon, fell to 4-8 on the season while the Warriors won their ninth game in 10 tries.
The Aggies struggled from the field all evening, finishing at just a 25.8 percent clip (16-for-62), including 10.5 percent (2-for-19) from 3-point land, Lycoming did not hit a single trey in eight attempts, but was 23-for-55 in its other field goal tries (41.8 percent).
Delaware Valley scored the opening two points of the game but it was the only lead it would hold. The Warriors led by eight just past the halfway point of the first stanza, but three points apiece from Eireann Anastasi and Agatha Drozd were part of a 6-1 run that made it a three-point contest. The Aggies were still down three, 20-17, when Lycoming scored six of the final seven points of the half for a 26-18 advantage.
Delaware Valley came out with an 8-2 run to start the second half, including three-point plays from Anastasi and Brenna Coll, to cut its deficit to two. The Warriors responded with eight straight points for a double-digit lead and the Aggies never got closer than six points the rest of the way.
Chelsea Henderson paced Lycoming with 13 points while Nicole Calella and Ali Derr combined for 22 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.
Coll led Delaware Valley with 18 points and 10 boards. In the process, the senior became just the 11th player in program history to surpass the 1,200-point plateau for a career (1,205). Anastasi finished with 13 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals. Drozd hit double digits with 10 points while Shannon Barlow grabbed 10 boards.
