Warhawks Cruise Past Illinois Tech

The Warhawks' relentless defense forced 26 turnovers by the Scarlet Hawks, the first time UW-Whitewater has forced more than 25 in a game since February 12, 2014 against UW-La Crosse. The defense held IIT to less than 40 points for the first time since November 24, 2012 against Edgewood College when the Eagles scored just 39. 

The offense knocked down 10 three-pointers for the first time since February of last season against UW-La Crosse and produced a 50 point winning margin for the first time since December 14, 2012 against Kalamazoo when the Warhawks won by 56. 

UW-Whitewater was efficient on both ends of the court committing just nine turnovers the first time registering fewer than 10 since March 8 of last season against St. Thomas. The Warhawks were whistled for a foul just eight times in the game, the fewest since January 7, 2012 against UW-River Falls.

The Warhawks jumped out to a quick lead making eight of their first 12 opportunities from the floor to take a 21-0 lead with 15:10 left in the half. UW-Whitewater's defense kept the Scarlet Hawks out of double figures until the 8:35 mark when Hailey Borowczyk's jumper make it 35-11. 

UW-Whitewater's lead continued to grow with the largest margin of the half coming at intermission with the Warhawks leading 53-18, 34 of those points coming off the bench. 

The Warhawks outscored IIT 37-2 off of turnovers in the first 20 minutes.

Abbie Reeves opened the second half just like she did the start of the game, with a three-pointer to make the score 56-18. 

The Warhawks held Illinois Tech scoreless the final 3:34 of the game to register the win, 93-36. 

UW-Whitewater had 18 players record court time in the game with 16 making their way into the scoring column. Reilly Stewart led all players with 19 points off of 3-4 from long range and a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line. She added a game-high four assists. 

Reeves went 3-7 from downtown with nine points and Brooke Trewyn dropped in four of five from field goal range for nine points.

Alexa Kelsey and Jaya Perkins each grabbed five rebounds to lead UW-Whitewater. 

The Scarlet Hawks were led by Kaylee Wicka with 17 points. Borowczyk led all players with seven rebounds. 

The Warhawks will head to Wisconsin Dells to take on Dubuque December 29 at 3:30 followed by a 1:30 showing against Bethany Lutheran College December 30.
