ROSEMONT (PA) – Delaware Valley placed four players in double figures in scoring as the Aggies led from start to finish in an 80-69, non-conference win at Rosemont College.
The victory improved Delaware Valley to 3-5 on the season while the Ravens, who knocked off Aggie Freedom Conference rival DeSales University last week, fell to 2-7.
Delaware Valley needed just six seconds to get on the scoreboard as Brenna Coll had a putback off an Eireann Anastasi miss. Brittany Wood followed with a 3-pointer 27 seconds later to spark a 15-6 run to start the game. All five Aggie starters scored in those opening five minutes.
Rosemont made it a five-point game with 11:22 to go in the first half, but Delaware Valley countered with a 10-2 spurt over the next three minutes to make it 32-19. The Aggies eventually took a 43-33 lead into the breaks thanks, in part to forcing 12 Raven turnovers that led to 17 points.
Rosemont got as close as six points in the second half as a Liz Coyne jumper with 13:37 remaining ended a 6-0 run that make it a 56-50 contest. Delaware Valley then scored 14 of the game's next 18 points, including seven from Anastasi, to open its largest advantage at 16, 70-54, with 6:29 to go. The Ravens never inched closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
The Aggies shot 44.8 percent from the field and went 24-for-33 from the foul line. They distributed 19 assists on their 26 field goals and committed just nine turnovers compared to 20 miscues by Rosemont.
Anastasi had 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. Coll shot 7-for-9 from the field and finished with 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Agatha Drozd added 13 points and four assists while Wood notched 12 points in the win. Sam Foy added eight points in her first collegiate start.
Coyne had 19 points and 16 rebounds for the Ravens.
