Women's Basketball downs Warhawks

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- Clutch free throw shooting down the stretch by the University of Wisconsin-Platteville women's basketball team sealed a 90-84 win over UW-Whitewater on Saturday for the Pioneers' first victory on Bo Ryan Court over the Warhawks since 2005. 

UW-Platteville made 24-27 from the charity stripe and shot a season-high 50.8 percent (32-63) from the field. The Pioneers netted 24 points off of 17 UWW turnovers.

Seniors Stacy Clark and Alyssa Krajco led the Pioneers with 22 points apiece. Krajco went 10-13 from the field and added a career-high five assists. Rachel Cropp recorded 12 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Keeley Schulz contributed 11 points and five rebounds. 

The Warhawks scored the first four points of the game, but the Pioneers answered that with a 10-3 run taking a 10-7 lead. UW-Platteville took the lead at the 17:16 mark and never gave it back. 

The Pioneers led by as many as 14 points, 40-26, with 1:22 left in the first half.

UWW managed to score the final five points of the half, cutting its deficit to seven points, 43-36, going into intermission. 

The Pioneers kept their lead to at a two or more possession game for most of the second half. The Warhawks capitalized on a few empty trips by UW-Platteville to make it a three-point game, 74-71, with 4:17 left to play. 

Clark scored the next four points to push UW-Platteville's lead back to seven, 78-71, but UWW battled back to make it a one possession game, 78-75, with 1:41 left to play. 

The Pioneers made 12 of their last 14 free throws in the final 1:40 to seal the 90-84 victory. 

UW-Platteville travels to UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
