MIDDLETOWN, PA – The York College women's basketball squad suffered a hard-to-swallow 71-62 Capital Athletic Conference setback at Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday night in league play in Middletown.
The Spartans have now lost three straight as they fall to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the CAC. The Lions picked up just their second-ever conference win as they improve to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in the league.
The Spartans got off to a good start as they led 10-6 just under six minutes into the game. The Green and White then went on a 15-5 run to push out to a game-high 14-point lead at 25-11.
The scrappy Lions weren't about to let the Spartans run away an hide as they closed out the final 7:26 of the half with a 16-8 run as they trimmed their deficit to just six at the break.
The Green and White quickly pushed their lead back up to eight to start the second half but the Lions responded with a monstrous 23-1 run as they turned the eight point deficit into a 14-point lead. The Spartans would never recover. York cut their deficit to six at 55-49 on a pair of Morgan Kuehne (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) free throws but Harrisburg answered with a 9-2 spurt to put the game out of reach.
The Lions were paced by Kaitlyn Carmo as she registered the double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Carmo was 5-for-16 from the floor, 2-for-5 from the line and 7-for-8 at the stripe. Kiara Carter led the Lion charge on the glass as she pulled in 14 rebounds while she also scored five points.
