ROCHESTER, N.Y.—William Smith College senior forward Chloe Hayter became the 15th Heron to reach the 1,000-point plateau tonight. She scored the first basket of the game to raise her career total to 1,001 points, but the College at Brockport tempered the celebration, defeating William Smith 69-53.

Hayter registered her second straight double-double and third of the season, logging team-highs of 13 points and 11 rebounds. She now has 1,012 career points. Sophomore Melanie Patterson added 10 points and classmate Gabrielle Eure chipped in nine points.

For Brockport, Hannah Rehbaum produced game-highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds. Olivia Suhr threw in 13 points while Lisa Yacovoni and Alyssa Rusinko both netted nine points.

The Herons (0-5) shot slightly better than the Golden Eagles (2-3) from the floor (37%-36%), but Brockport made more than twice as many 3-pointers (7-3) and more than four times as many free throws (18-4). William Smith outrebounded Brockport 45-40.

Patterson made a layup with 11:13 remaining in the first half to give the Herons a 15-12 lead. It was William Smith's final lead of the night. A minute later, Rusinko tied the game with a triple and Yacovoni followed with a jumper to give Brockport the lead. Eure tied the game for the fourth and final time, 9:22 before halftime. Rehbaum started a 6-0 run that put the Eagles in the lead for good.

Brockport led by as many as nine in the first half and carried a 37-29 lead into halftime. William Smith shot 43 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes but committed 13 turnovers.

In the second half, the Herons twice closed the gap to 7 points—first on a 3-pointer by senior Ali Pliszka and seconds later on a layup by sophomore Courtney Chase—but got no closer. Brockport scored the game's next five points to push its advantage into double digits and maintained at least a 10-point lead for the rest of the game.

William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 6, when the Herons play at Nazareth. Tipoff of the Wendy's seventh place game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
