Hornet Women's Basketball Scores 74-55 Win over Roanoke

SALEM, VA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team won its Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener against Roanoke College 79-55 on Wednesday.   

The Hornets started off strong as they led 37-26 over Roanoke at halftime. With the help of Shannon Allan's 20 points, the Hornets were able to battle back from an early deficit of 10-6. 

Lynchburg settled in early in the second half and found some hot shooting as Allan went 4-for-6 from beyond the arc for the game. Roanoke shot 39.7 percent from the field but kept it close early due to a 5-of-11 mark from three-point land in the game.

Lynchburg's stifling defense was effective as they forced their opponents into 16 total turnovers.

Allan led the way for LC six rebounds and five assists to go along with her game-high scoring total.  Chaney Forbush also had a solid night, finishing the game with 16 points and eight rebounds while Charmaine Hairston and Lauren Penley added eight points each. 

Cary Beahm led the way for the Maroons (4-2/1-1) with 20 points, nine rebounds and four steals.

The Hornets (4-2/1-0) host Shenandoah University for an ODAC game Saturday at 2 p.m.
