Augsburg Women Pull Away From Pomona-Pitzer

Claremont, Calif. - Jenna Orth had 15 points on 7-9 shooting to lead the Augsburg Women's Basketball team to a 67-50 win over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday on the second day of the David Wells Classic at Harvey Mudd's Linde Activities Center. 

With the loss, the Sagehens fall to 1-4 on the season, while Augusburg improves to 4-2 after bouncing back from yesterday's loss to CMS. 

Junior forward Amelia Hummel and sophomore forward Basha Brulee-Wills led Pomona-Pitzer with 12 points apiece, while freshman forward Cassandra Palmer (pictured) scored in double figures for the first time in her young career with 10. 

The Sagehens were within eight points late in the first half (27-19), but Augsburg closed out on a quick 5-0 run in the final minute of the first half. then scored the first four points of the second half to take a 36-19. The Sagehens got as close as 13 points on two occasions, but the Auggies never allowed the momentum to stay on Pomona-Pitzer's side long enough for a comeback.

Pomona-Pitzer had an excellent day at the foul line, shooting 21-25 (84 percent), led by 8-9 from Brulee-Wills and 8-10 from Palmer. However, the Sagehens committed 23 turnovers and forced Augsburg to commit only eight.

The Sagehens are back in action on Thursday when they host La Sierra at Voelkel Gymnasium at 5:30 p.m. in the first half of a doubleheader with the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Basketball team, which plays at 7:30. p.m. against North Central (Ill.).
