The Wheaton (Ill.) women's basketball team earned an 82-75 victory in a battle of nationally ranked teams on Tuesday at Hope College. Wheaton is ranked No. 15 in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25 poll and Hope (2-1) is ranked sixth in the same poll.

Wheaton is now 5-0 to start a season for the first time since 2005-06. Tonight's loss marks the first non-conference loss at home for the Flying Dutch since 2000. The Thunder will travel to University of Chicago next Wednesday to face the Maroons.

Hope led the Thunder 13-2 in the first 4:30 of tonight's matchup in Michigan. The Flying Dutch held an eight-point lead at 21-13 with 9:27 remaining in the first half when Wheaton put together a 17-5 run to take a 30-26 lead with 3:10 left in the opening half. The late first-half run allowed the Thunder to hold a 34-33 advantage at halftime.

Hope briefly regained the lead at 51-49 with 12:53 left in the second half thanks to a 3-pointer by Mandy Traversa. However, the Thunder immediately responded with 10 unanswered points to take a 59-51 lead. That eight-point lead was the largest advantage of the game for the guests. Hope countered with an 11-2 run to take a 62-61 lead with 5:30 left in the game but it would be the last advantage of the game for the Flying Dutch.

The Thunder led 72-71 with 1:36 left in regulation when Wheaton sophomore Chantal Meacham made a layup to increase the guests' lead to 74-71. The Thunder defense kept Hope from scoring on its next trip down the court and Wheaton's Ellie Zeller scored to extend the Thunder advantage to 76-71 with 47 seconds left in regulation. Hope was unable to score on the ensuing possession, forcing the Flying Dutch to foul Wheaton and Zeller made a pair of free throws with 22 seconds left in the game to increase the Thunder bulge to 78-71. Katie McDaniels was 4-for-4 in the final 10 seconds of regulation to secure the crucial road win for the Thunder.

McDaniels led the Thunder with 19 points, including a 13-of-14 effort at the free throw line. Zeller scored 15 points, with four rebounds. Sarah Drury contributed 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field. Hannah Considine scored nine points, with seven rebounds. Lauren Graham and Chantal Meacham each contributed eight points.
