Winchester, Va. – Kievanna Lacey dropped a game-high 16 points on Monday night, leading the Marymount women's basketball squad past Shenandoah in comeback fashion. The Saints overcame a sluggish start to eventually topple the host Hornets, 49-45. Marymount improves to 3-1 on the season with the win.
Shenandoah jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the Saints failed to capitalize on their first six possessions. The Hornets would continue on to record 11 of the game's first 13 tallies – leaving Marymount with some serious work to do.
The Saints, however, found their urgency as the first frame peaked and began creeping toward the half. Marymount used an electric 10-2 run to close the gap to one, 13-12, with 7:19 left to play.
While a Shenandoah three-pointer offered the host some reprieve, the Saints continued their assault at a torrid pace – closing the first half with just enough momentum to knot the score at 21-21.
Coming out of the break, a point-for-point battle ensued, until the deadlock reached 26-26. Lacey broke the short-lived stalemate and put the Saints on top for good.
Marymount jolted for a 9-0 run to add some cushion to the final ten minutes, eventually upping the advantage to as much as 13 with 6:54 remaining.
The Hornets chipped away in the final 60 seconds, but ran out of time, failing to solve the elusive Saints' defense.
Miranda Krott continued her dominance under the basket, hauling in a game-high nine boards in the effort.
Marymount returns to action on Monday as it hosts CAC foe Southern Virginia in its friendly Arlington, Va., confines. Game time is slated for 6:00 p.m.
