AU tops Keuka, 68-52, in home opener

ALFRED, NY—The AU women's basketball team earned their first win of the season, 68-52, against Keuka College at the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena Friday evening.
 
Senior Emilea Harrison (Conesus, NY/Dansville) was one rebound away from a double-double on the night, scoring 14 points and adding nine rebounds, five steals, and five assists.  With the help of Harrison, the Saxons were able to top the Wolfpack, 68-52.
 
The beginning of the game was a back-and-forth affair with five lead changes coming in just the first nine minutes.  Finally, in the 12th minute the Saxons were able to take on the lead on an Amanda Off (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) jumper and AU didn't look back maintaining the lead the remainder of the game. 
 
However, Wolfpack closed out the first half with an 8-2 run against the Saxons and brought the game within striking distance.  In the first half the Wolfpack shot 14-32 (43.8%) from the field while hitting 1-3 (33.3%) from long distance.   The Saxons returned fire, making 15-33 (45.5%) of their shots and adding three shots from behind the arc. 
 
To start the second period, the game was back to a jostle for the lead, but the Saxons never relinquished their stranglehold.  Finally, with 15:09 to go, the Saxons heated up and went on a six minute 13-4 run to break the game open.  With the lead securely in hand, the Saxons rode to victory.  The final fell in the Saxons favor, 68-52.
 
Off finished the evening with 19 points, six rebounds, and three steals.  Freshman McKaylee Croll (Perry, NY/Perry) had a break out game adding 13 points to the Saxon total while dishing out four assists.  Over the course of the game the Saxons shot 25-57 (43.9%) from the field and 5-15 (33.3%) from three-point range. 
 
AU (1-3, E8 0-0) will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 25th when they travel to Williamsport, PA to take on the Penn Tech Wildcats.
