The Baruch College lost a hard-fought game to #2-ranked Amherst College, 73-63, in the championship game of the Amherst Tip-Off Tournament played on Sunday afternoon in Amherst, Massachusetts.
The Bearcats were trailing 59-52, but scored seven straight points to tie the contest with 7:19 remaining to put a scare into the Lord Jeffs.
Sheridan Taylorstarted the 7-0 run with a pair of free throws, Alicea Ulmerhit a layup, and Kristen Podlovitsconnected on a three to tie the contest at 59 with 7:19 left.
Unfortunately, the Lord Jeffs responded with a run of their own by scoring 10 consecutive points over the next five minutes to turn the tie at 59 into a 69-59 lead with 2:41 remaining. The Bearcats could not recover to suffer the tough road loss.
They will get another chance to play one of the nation's best this Tuesday, November 25, with a 7:00 pm home contest against No. 1 ranked FDU-Florham. It is very rare to play the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams in the same week of the regular season, but the Bearcats have that opportunity.
Iyana Abramsled the Bearcats this afternoon with a double-double of 14 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Francess Henrytotaled 13 points, eight rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals, while Alicea Ulmerrounded out the double-figure scorers with a double-double of 12 points, 12 rebounds and one blocked shot.
The Bearcats forced the Lord Jeffs into committing 19 turnovers and blocked four of their shots.
