Rams Drop Opening Game at Amherst Tournament

Baruch - 86, Farmingdale State - 64


Amherst, Mass. - The Farmingdale State women's basketball team dropped a non-conference game against Baruch, 86-64, in the opening round of the Amherst Tournament on Saturday night. The Rams now stand at 2-2 on the season, while the Bearcats improved to 1-1.

Trailing 13-6 in the opening minutes, Farmingdale State used a 3-point play by senior guard Camille Romero (Bronx, N.Y.) and a pair of free-throw's by junior guard Andrea Desvignes (Deer Park, N.Y.) to close within two. 

After the Rams cut the deficit to 25-23 with 7:16 remaining, Baruch closed the half on a 19-4 run to take a 44-27 lead into the break. Romero tallied 11 points and Desvignes had 10 points in the opening half.

Farmingdale State junior forward Marlaina Sherman (Miller Place, N.Y.) started the second half with back-to-back scores to cut the deficit to 44-31.

After a pair of Romero free-throw's pulled the Rams within 11, an 11-2 Bearcats run extended their advantage to 61-42 with 10:53 left to play. Romero scored the next 15 points for Farmingdale State but Baruch held a double-digit lead the remainder of the game. The Rams dropped the opening game of the tournament, 86-64.

Romero led all scorers with 28 points, including 17 in the second half, while Desvignes had 10 points, four assists and three steals.

Senior forward Sheridan Taylor (Peekskill, N.Y.) recorded a double-double with 18 points (9-for-12) and 17 boards for Baruch.

The Rams now will play Mount Holyoke in the consolation game of the Amherst Tournament on Sunday, November 23rd at 2:00 p.m.
