AURORA, NY—The AU women's basketball team was bested by the Wells College Express, 78-60, in the Wednesday evening non-conference match up.
The Saxons were unable to notch their first win of the season against the Wells College Express despite forcing 21 turnovers in the game. Senior Harley Cleary(Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) led the Saxons with 18 points, while Amanda Off (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley) added 17 points, 13 rebounds, and five steals.
AU got out ahead of the Express early and maintained the lead until late in the first half. The largest margin the Saxon held was 8 points with just over ten minutes to go in the first half. The success of the Saxons came on the back of turnovers, where they held the advantage until the second half. Wells took the lead with 3:11 left, and would not look back. At half, Wells College was up, 37-33.
Following the intermission, the Express shooters came to life making 60% of their shots and putting up 41 points in the second half. AU struggled from deep, only making 3 of 21(14.3%) shots from behind the arc, while Wells shot 4 of 13 (30.8%). As the final horn sounded, Wells College was on top, 78-60.
Multiple Saxons were spreading the ball around on the evening, as Emilea Harrison (Conesus, NY/Dansville), Hailey Sick (Dansville, NY/Dansville), and McKaylee Croll (Perry, NY/Perry) each had three assists.
AU (0-3, E8 0-0) is in action again Friday, Nov. 21st at 6PM for the 2014-2015 home opener at the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena where they will take on the Keuka College Wolfpack (0-2, NEAC 0-0).
