Red-Hot Second Half Carries Rochester Past William Smith

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The University of Rochester blistered the nets at 64% shooting in the second half and rolled to an 81-50 victory over William Smith College at the Louis Alexander Palestra on Tuesday evening.

 

Senior guard Blair Landolfi led the charge, hitting 7 of 7 from the floor, 3 of 3 outside the arc. She scored a game-high 17 points, three shy of her career high. Al Leslie scored 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and handed out three assists. Sarah Kaminsky had eight points, four assists, and two steals. Ally Zywicki scored seven points, made one steal, and handed out six assists. The Yellowjackets are 2-0.

 

Gabrielle Eure scored 10 points for William Smith. Courtney Chase scored nine points. Laura Brustein and Chloe Hayer had six points apiece. The Herons are 0-2.

 

Rochester finished at 50% from the floor (35-70), 39% outside the arc (7-18). The Yellowjackets made 21 of 33 floor shots in the second half (64%), six of seven outside the arc (86%). In the first half, Rochester was 1-11 from long range (9%) and 14-37 overall (38%).

 

William Smith shot 40% from the field (20-50), 25% from long range (2-8). The Herons were undone by turnovers. They committed 24, leading to 22 Rochester points. Rochester had 12 giveaways and William Smith scored six points.


Rochester led, 32-25, at the half. They opened the second half with an 18-5 run over four and a half minutes to take a 50-30 lead. Landolfi scored seven of the 18 points. Rochester closed the sprint with three-pointers from Landolfi, Zywicki, and Kaminsky.
