Berry College wins opener 106-31

ROME, Ga. -- Berry College women's basketball began its basketball season with a 106-31 win over visiting Wesleyan (Ga.) on Monday night. The 106 point total is the second most in program history and is an NCAA Division III record for Berry.

Twelve of the thirteen Vikings who played scored in the game. Mel McLean led BC with 17 points and five three-point baskets. Emma Cook added 17 points and seven rebounds. Chanlir Segarra scored nine points and dished nine assists for the home team.

Freshmen Peyton Howell and Imani Smith scored 16 and 14 points respectively. Howell was a perfect 12-12 from the free throw line.

The Vikings led 53-18 at halftime. Berry had 66 rebounds to Wesleyan's 31. BC shot 53-percent (33-70) to the Wolves 16-percent (10-63).

"I was really pleased with our team tonight," said Head Coach Stephanie Dunn. "Our returning players showed leadership and played well. I also thought the freshmen did a nice job in their first college game. Wesleyan played much better against Sewanee, but I think our pressure and offense gave them some trouble."

Diamond Hudson netted 13 points in the defeat for Wesleyan (0-2).

The Vikings host Toccoa Falls College on Friday at 6 p.m.
