Millikin Women's Basketball Opens Season with Loss

    The Millikin women's basketball team opened the 2014-15 season with a 75-70 loss to Westminster College on November 15 at the CCIW\SLIAC Challenge in Elmhurst, Illinois.
    Westminster jumped out to a quick start in the first half shooting 63 percent compared to 37 percent for Millikin.  Westminster built a 19 point advantage in the half before Millikin rallied to cut the lead to 39-33 at the half.
    Millikin started the second half strong and took a 41-39 lead with 18 minutes left in the game.  It was a back-and-fourth game for most of the second half until Westminster pulled out to a seven point lead with five minutes left to play.  Millikin pulled to with two points at 72-70 with 45 seconds left to play, but Westminster converted on three of four from the free throw line in final seconds to hold on for the win.
    Westminster shot 54 percent from the field for the game while Millikin converted on 35 percent of its shots.  Millikin won the rebounding battle 44-31.
    Saklak led Millikin with 23 points and 10 rebounds.  Yip Ypya scored 14 points followed by Holly Haskins with 10.  Junior Hannah Millington had a team high 12 rebounds and six points.
    Westminster had four players in double figures led by Andrea Zalis with 17 points.
    Millikin will host Eureka College on Tuesday, November 18 at 7 p.m.
