MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Brittany King went 8-for-9 from the field and the UT Tyler women's basketball team cruised to a 67-43 win over Maryville (Tenn.) in the opening round of the 2014 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship.

The Patriots (26-3) will face either Spalding or Rhodes in the second round tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. on Rhodes' campus. UT Tyler is making its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Championships.

From the beginning, Maryville couldn't handle the size differential, as the Patriots held a 36-19 edge in rebounding, including a 26-11 on defensive boards.

The Patriots, who led by as many as 32 points in the second half, shot 56-percent for the game while the defense held Maryville to just 34-percent shooting.  From beyond the arc, UT Tyler was 47-percent as Teylor Seals and Jasmin Baskin combined for five three-pointers.

King had a double-double for Patriots, scoring 16 and grabbing 10 rebounds to lead the game in both categories.  Seals posted 15 points and She'Cara Humphrey added 12 to go along with eight rebounds. 

Danai Woods had seven assists, handing off the ball to King and Humphrey who helped UT Tyler to a 34-16 advantage in points in the paint.

Lauren Burnett and Jordan Ballard led Maryville with 14 points each.  The Scots finished the season with a 22-7 record.
