TAVERNIER, Fla. -- Lena Negri posted a double-double with 27 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Emmanuel College women's basketball team to a 68-62 victory over Bridgewater State University in the consolation game of the Key Largo Classic held at Coral Shores High School in Tavernier, Florida.
Emmanuel improves to 7-4 with the win, while Bridgewater State slips to 5-5 with the setback.
Elisha Homich paced Bridgewater with 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Jenna Williamson added 15 points, six rebounds and five steals, while Tatyana Belizaire registered her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 boards. Melissa Daigle chipped in with ten points and a pair of steals.
The Emmanuel bench outscored the Bridgewater reserves by a margin of 27-2. The Saints also held a 55-38 rebounding advantage including a 20-9 edge on the offensive glass.
The game featured nine ties and seven lead changes. Emmanuel took the lead for good on aJasmine Burwell layup with 13:30 remaining in the second half. Burwell's bucket was part of a 14-2 run which erased a three-point deficit (46-43). The Saints got up by as many as 11 points (65-54) before settling for the 68-62 win.
Williamson moved into a tie for ninth place on Bridgewater State's all-time scoring list as she now has 1,072 points in her career. Jessica Worden also notched 1,072 points for the Bears from 2001 to 2005.
Homich, who was selected to the All-Tournament Team, increased her career scoring total to 900 points.
