Warner shines off bench as Tommies roll

More news about: St. Thomas

Junior Elaine Warner went 4-for-4 from 3-point range and netted a career-high 18 points off the bench as No. 15-ranked St. Thomas rolled to a 71-56 road win over No. 25-ranked Concordia in Thursday's MIAC women's basketball playoffs in Moorhead.

Senior Kelly Brandenburg scored 19 points for St. Thomas (23-4), which shot 50 percent from the floor and advanced to Saturday's 3 p.m. championship match against top-seed St. Mary's.

Alevandra Lippert had 25 points and 10 boards for Concordia (21-5). The regionally-ranked Cobbers will wait until Monday's bracket announcement to see if they make the NCAA playoff field.

UST never trailed in the second half as it avenged its two regular-season losses to the Cobbers. Concordia had won 15 of its last 16 coming into Thursday.

Warner, who added seven rebounds, came into the game having made just 1-of-10 in 3-point attempts this season. She scored just two points in the two previous games against Concordia. But her 3-pointer let the Tommies take a 29-28 halftime lead, and she sank two more to fuel a 18-5 run to open the second half. She made all five shots from the floor.

Jenna Dockter chipped in 11 points; Taylor Young had nine points, four assists, three blocks, and three steals; and Laura Margarit had seven rebounds.
