Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's women's basketball team took down 16th-ranked Christopher Newport 74-60 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday to clinch the fourth-seed, and a home game, in the upcoming league tournament.  The Saints improve to 16-9 overall and 11-5 in CAC play.

Miranda Krott led the Saints with 17 points to go with eight rebounds while Katelyn Fischer posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 assists to go with five rebounds and four steals.  Aliya Roseborough chipped in 10 points off the bench.

Christopher Newport (21-4, 13-3 CAC) opened the game on a 6-0 run and led 8-2 at the 17:49 mark.  The Saints responded with a 7-0 run of their own over the next four minutes to take an 11-8 lead and set the tone for the game.  Trading leads again before a 14-14 tie at the 10:29 mark, the Blue and White posted another four minute run, this time 12-0, to take a double-figure lead with 6:34 remaining.  The Saints would dip back into a single-digit lead for just one possession before eventually taking a 40-26 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Saints kept their foot on the throttle and flirted with a 20 point lead most of the opening 10 minutes.  Marymount hit the number up 54-34 on a fast-break layup from Daja Belt at the 10:41 mark.  The Blue and White led by as many as 22 in the frame, and never by less than 14, as they cruised to victory down the stretch.

Marymount's shooting was lights-out in the game as it hit an even 60 percent in the contest.  The Saints shot shooting was almost perfectly consistent as they hit 60.9% from the floor in the first half and 59.1% in the second.

Nicole Mitchell and Camry Green both led Christopher Newport with 18 points each.

Marymount returns to the hardwood on Tuesday as it hosts rival Mary Washington in the CAC First Round.  The Saints and Eagles split their two previous meetings, each winning on their own home floor.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and fans can follow the action live by logging on to www.MarymountSaints.com.
