Sami Schoeder scores 21 in 76-68 playoff clinching win over Pointers

MENOMONIE (February 22, 2014) - Sami Schoeder (Sr, Durand) wasn't quite ready to call it a career.  She proved it by scoring 21 points to leadUW-Stout to a 76-68 playoff clinching victory over UW-Stevens Point. Saturday at Johnson Fieldhouse.

Stout (11-14, 7-9 WIAC) was down by as many as 15 points in the game, but like their entire season, refused to give up.  With 3:37 left in the first half they began chipping away at the lead.  A layup by Rachel Hanley (Sr, Minong) with 42 second left in the half cut the lead to seven. 

Stevens Point (16-9, 9-7 WIAC) would lead for the first 13:33 of the second half before two Tara Matter, (Fr, Spencer) free throws gave the Blue Devils the lead for good.  Matter added her second consecutive double double for Stout, scoring 14 points and pulling in 10 rebounds.  She scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half to help seal the game for Stout.

Katelynne Folkers (Jr, Fall Creek) added 10 points and five rebounds for Stout.  Brea Boomer (Jr, Grand Portage, Minn.) chipped in eight rebounds of her own.

The Pointers were led by Autumn Hennes who scored a team high 17 points.  Kaitlyn Jacobs chipped in eight points and 10 rebounds.  Jamie Destache finished second on the team in scoring for the game with her 11 points. 

With the win the Blue Devils earned the fourth seed in the WIAC tournament.  They will play host to UW-Superior at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25.
