Macalester snaps nine-game slide against St. Olaf

Erin Murray (So., Sparta, Wis.) led the way with 23 points, taking advantage of six three-pointers as Macalester held off visiting St. Olaf for a 61-58 victory over the Oles at the Leonard Center in St. Paul.   The Scots snap out of a nine-game slump and improve to 4-20 overall, 3-18 in the MIAC.

 

Erin Murray led the way with 23 points, taking advantage of six three-pointers, to lead host-Macalester (4-20 / 3-18 MIAC) past St. Olaf.  This was the 14th time this season that Murray has paced the Scots.  Carmen Whitehead (Sr., Greeley, Colo. / West) added 10 points and four assists for the Scots.

Emily Wahlberg had nine points each to pace the Oles (14-10 / 12-9 MIAC), while adding eight each were Lauren Gutierrez and Zoe Hansen.  St. Olaf led 22-10 in points in the paint and 16-6 in second chance points.

 

There were 14 lead changes in this contest, which Mac led 29-28 at halftime.  The Scots led by a single point several times late in the second half.  Leading 58-57, Macalester made it 60-57 with 2:46 left on a Katelyn Kack (So., Minneota, Minn.) jumper.

 

Macalester closes out its 2013-14 campaign Saturday (Feb. 22) with it play Carleton in Northfield.
