Millikin Women Defeat Elmhurst

          The Millikin women's basketball team scored a key 68-57 victory over Elmhurst College on Feb. 19 in Decatur, Ill.  Millikin needed the victory to tie Elmhurst for fourth place in the CCIW standings in the battle for the final spot in the CCIW tournament.

          Elmhurst had its only lead of the game at 2-0 and after Millikin jumped to a 4-2 advantage, the Big Blue never trailed building up an 11 point half time lead at 34-23.  The two teams played even in the second half with the Big Blue holding on for the 11 point victory.

          Millikin shot 50 percent from the field while holding Elmhurst to 39 percent.  Millikin had the rebounding edge 33-29.

          Freshman Yip Ypya led Millikin with a career high 21 points and six rebounds.  Senior Brittany Czaplicki had 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and five steals.  Bria Williams had a team high seven rebounds along with nine points.

          Fiona McMahon led Elmhurst with 18 points and 12 rebounds.  Mel Schwedtmann had 14 points.

          Millikin and Carthage are tied for fourth place with a 5-8 record.  Millikin will finish off the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 22 at first place Carthage.  Elmhurst will host North Central on Saturday.  North Central had a 4-9 record victory over the Bluejays could produce a three or four team tie for fourth place.  North Park is at 4-8 and must still face Augustana and Illinois Wesleyan.
