Warhawk Women Clinch Second Consecutive WIAC Title

The Warhawks are a perfect 15-0 in the WIAC and 21-3 overall, and the Titans fall to 20-3 overall and 11-3 in the conference.
 
Mary Merg led all scorers with 18 points, shooting 6-13 from the field and 6-7 from the charity stripe. Kristen Ruchti was 6-11 from the floor for 14 points and tied Amy Mandrell for the team lead with seven rebounds. UW-Oshkosh was led by Katelyn Kuehl with nine points and Kendall Truttman and Marissa Selner had a game-high 12 rebounds.

UW-W shot 43% from the floor and 80% from the freethrow line. UW-O shot a season-low 25% from the field, hitting 5-15 from behind the arc and 13-20 at the charity stripe.
 
Oshkosh jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the opening minutes of play, but the Warhawks came back with a 12-2 run to take a 16-11 advantage with nine minutes remaining in the opening half. The Titans were able to pull within two, 15-17, at the 7:38 mark in the first half before Ruchti and Merg lead an 8-0 run to put the lead back to double-digits, 25-15.
 
Merg shot 50% from the field for 12 points while Abbie Reeves and Ruchti scored six each. UW-W was 9-24 (37%) from the field in the opening half and Oshkosh was 8-31 (26%). 
 
A pair of free throws by Mandrell and a jumper by Ruchti extended the Warhawks lead back to 10, 31-21, in the opening minutes of the second half. The Titans pulled within seven when Kendell Truttman hit a three with 15:14 left in the game, but UW-O was never closer.

UW-W responded by going on a 23-8 scoring run to take a 54-32 lead with 7:10 left in the game. UW-Oshkosh was never able to pull back within 17 points the remainder of the game.
 
The Warhawks will wrap-up the regular season when they host UW-Eau Claire for Senior Day, Saturday at 3:00 pm. 

UW-W clinched the number one seed in the WIAC Championship with the win Saturday and will receive a first round bye February 25. The Warhawks will host the lowest remaining seed in their first action in the WIAC Championship Thursday, February 27 at 7:00.
