CASTINE, Maine -- Ashley Shine scored 33 points to lead Maine Maritime to a 73-43 win over Lyndon State in North Atlantic Conference women's basketball game Saturday. The Mariners won their third-straight game and improved to 14-9 overall, 11-5 NAC, while the Hornets fell to 3-19, 3-14.
Shine evened a program record for points in a game with Michelle Gott '07, who scored 33 against Wheelock in 2004. Shine finished the game 10 of 19 from the field and 9 of 10 from the line.
Leah Jackson grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds for Maine Maritime, while Kari Jones added nine points, Jillian Perron seven points and five rebounds and Hannah Lyons had seven assists.
Drew Neal paced Lyndon State with 11 points and Chelsea Bagley added nine. Chelsea Watson grabbed a team0high six rebounds.
Maine Maritime opened the game with a 12-0 lead, including eight points from Shine. The Hornets made it a seven points game when Watson hit a trey to make it 14-7 with 14:47 left before the break.
The Mariners answered with a 15-0 run, spanning seven minutes, to lead 29-7 with 7:09 left before halftime. Jones scored six in the run, Shine four, Bekah Campbell and Mackenzie Vosburgh two and Cheyenne Malloy one. Maine Maritime led 38-23 at halftime.
The Mariners opened the second half with a 9-2 run and took a 47-25 lead on a Jones three with 16:45 left in the game. Maine Maritime's lead never dipped below 20 the rest of the game.
The Mariners return to action Wednesday, 5:30 p.m., at Thomas.
