CHESTER, Pa. — For the first time since the 2006-07 season, the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team won both its regular season matchups with Widener. The Blue Jays led the entire way in a 60-53 road victory at the Schwartz Center Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference action. With the win, E-town clinched a spot in the CC playoffs.

Taylor Kreider, the most recent addition to the 1,000-point club, continued her scoring ways early against Widener (12-10, 7-8 CC). The senior scored four of Elizabethtown's (17-4, 11-4 CC) first six points. Meanwhile, the Pride began the game shooting 1-of-9 from the floor.

The Jays controlled much of the play, though Widener was out-rebounding them 14-7 in the first six minutes, including five offensive rebounds to help keep several possessions alive. The Pride would only register three second-chance points despite grabbing 12 offensive boards in the first half.

E-town did its job defensively in containing Widener's leading scorer, Jen Egee, who came into the game averaging 22 points per contest. Egee started 0-for-4 and didn't hit her first field goal until the 10:53 mark to pull the Pride within four at 15-11.

Widener did not have an answer defensively for Kreider in the first half, as her layup at 8:51 gave her nine points on 4-for-5 shooting.

After Kreider's bucket, Emily Young deflected an entry pass into the post, causing the steal and E-town went back the other way. On the ensuing offensive possession, the ball moved crisply around, shifting the defense, and eventually Kreider found Kendra Beittel for an open three-pointer, and the Hempfield grad connected to extend the Blue Jays' lead to 20-11.

As the clocked ran under four minutes, Rachel Forjan found herself in trouble in the corner. She was able to find Taylor Alwine at the top of the key, and Alwine buried her jumper to make it 27-18. Neither team would score the remainder of the half, keeping the advantage at nine at halftime.

Elizabethtown held Widener to 17.6 percent (6-34) shooting in the first half. Egee was just 1-for-7 for three points.

The Pride were right back in the game after quickly scoring four points out of the break, while E-town misfired on its first four shots and turned it over twice.

Forjan found a cutting Emily Young inside for a layup and then out of a timeout, Young connected again down low for the Jays' first two baskets of the final 20 minutes.

Widener found its shooting touch, but could not get any closer than two points. Brianna Wylie's layup made it 41-39, but E-town responded with a 6-0 run to push it back to eight.

The Jays' advantage hovered around eight points for the next three minutes, but back-to-back treys had the edge back down to five with five minutes remaining.

Emily Martin and Forjan each hit a pair of free throws late as Elizabethtown never trailed and finished off the Pride, 60-53.

Forjan paced the Jays with a team-high 20 points and seven assists. She was also 9-for-10 at the charity stripe. Kreider finished with 13 points and nine rebounds, Young posted her second-straight double-digit game with ten points, and Martin grabbed a team-high ten boards. Joanna Persiano had a game-high 21 points, while Egee was held to 11 for Widener.

The win leaves the women's basketball program two shy of 1,000 victories with three games left to play. The Blue Jays return to Thompson Gymnasium on Saturday, February 15 for Senior Day when they host Hood. Game-time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
