The Spartans held the Terriers to just 25.0 percent shooting and outrebounded them 49-30 as they improved to 15-2 and 10-0 in conference action. Thomas allowed Castleton to shoot 42.9 percent from the floor and gave away the ball 19 times as the Terriers dropped to 3-13 overall and 3-7 in the conference.
Senior Alyssa Leonard continued her impressive play with 17 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two steals to pace the offense. Meghan O'Sullivan added 12 points, five rebounds and three assists while Jade Desroches recorded 12 points, two assists, two blocks and two steals. Heather Murdough nearly had a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds.
Elizabeth Goodall led Thomas with nine points, five rebounds and three assists. Katie McAllister added six points and two steals while Kelly Macomber finished with five blocks, four points and two rebounds.
Castleton opened the game with a 13-2 run over the first five minutes. Thomas responded with five straight, but Stephanie Bull and Leonard countered with buckets for the ten-point lead. The Spartans eventually took control with a 7-0 run for a 27-10 advantage with 6:22 left in the half. The Terriers scored three straight, but Castleton ended the half on a 16-5 run for the 43-18 lead.
The Spartans extended their lead to 30 at 12:46 in the second half on a layup by Leonard and pushed it to 57-23 with 8:43 left. Castleton subbed liberally over the final eight minutes and saw its lead climb as high as 48 in the final minute before finishing with the 46-point victory.
Thomas will host Colby-Sawyer in conference play on Friday, Jan. 31 at 5:30pm.
