SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 9, 2014) – After making 10 first-half three-point shots, the Sewanee women's basketball team never looked back, Sunday, as the Tigers rolled over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Oglethorpe, 69-53, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
Sewanee opened the game with its best half of the season. Sewanee scored 42 points in the opening 20 minutes behind some outstanding outside shooting. The Tigers made 62.5 percent of their three-point attempts en route to a 42-26 halftime lead.
Sewanee entered the locker room with two players in double figures. Senior Paige Lowe had 14 of her game-high 22 points while sophomore Jamie Chauvin added 11 early points on 4-of-5 attempts.
After halftime, Sewanee and the Stormy Petrels played evenly. Each team posted 27 points, which set up the final score.
Sewanee put the game out of reach over the first 12 minutes of the second half. The Tigers eventually took their largest lead of the game, 25 points, after Chauvin hit another three with eight minutes left.
Overall, Sewanee made 50 percent of its three-point attempts.
Individually, Chauvin joined Lowe in double figures with 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Savannah Rose added 11 points while Casey Hassett pitched in seven points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Finally, Kayla Sewell added 10 rebounds, two blocks and six points.
Ciaria Hughes led OU with a 14-point, 14-rebound double-double.
The Tigers continue SAA play with a 6:00 p.m. contest at Millsaps, Friday.
