The Millikin women's basketball team had its offense in high gear defeating North Central College 101-82 in Naperville, Ill. on Feb. 6.
North Central is known for its fast paced game and high scoring offense, but tonight it was the Big Blue that perfected the fast paced offense hitting on 60.5 percent from the field while North Central connected on only 37.5 percent. Millikin scored only nine points from the free throw line shooting 9-20. Millikin scored 92 of its 101 from the field without hitting any three point baskets.
The game was fairly close in the first half with Millikin heading to the locker room with a 47-43 advantage. Millikin had a 70-67 advantage with 10 minutes remaining the game. The Big Blue then outscored the Cardinals 31-25 over the final 10 minutes to cruise to the 19 point victory.
Millikin dominated the rebounding battle 59-31. Millikin committed 38 turnovers while the Cardinals turned the ball over 30 times.
Millikin had five players scoring in double figures led by Brittany Czaplicki with 25 points, eight rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals. Kelsey Going added 21 points for the Big Blue. Yip Ypya had 13 points and five assists. Jasmine Johnson contributed 12 points, two blocks and three steals. Bria Williams had 10 points and tied Czaplicki for team high in rebounds with eight.
Kelsey Cooling and Maryssa Cladis led North Central with 12 points each.
Millikin improves to 9-11, 3-6 while North Central goes to 10-11, 3-7.
The Big Blue will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 8 when they travel to Wheaton College for a 5 p.m. contest.
