More news about: Lakeland

Concordia University Wisconsin led from start to finish to remain undefeated on the season, defeating the Lakeland College women's basketball team 73-51 Thursday night at the Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Muskies never got into an offensive rhythm and had no player score in double figures, dropping to 3-4 overall this season. Lakeland also is 2-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

Concordia once again used its typical recipe for success so far this season to grind away another win and improve to 8-0 on the season, 5-0 in the NACC. The Falcons out-rebounded the Muskies 41-31, including 18 offensive rebounds, and committed just seven turnovers. Concordia also took advantage of 19 Lakeland turnovers, converting those into 18 points.

Both teams shot similar percentages, as Lakeland's 40.8% shooting (20 of 49) was just behind Concordia's 41.3% mark. The Falcons took 14 more field goal attempts, though (26 of 63), and also shot twice as many free throws, making 18 of 22 from the stripe (81.8%) compared to the Muskies going just 6 of 11 from the line.

Concordia led 37-26 at halftime, breaking free after the Muskies challenged early by shooting 45.5% (15 of 33) in the first 20 minutes. Lexie Greenheck (So.-Oostburg, Wis.) hit a three-pointer with 7:28 remaining in the half to cut the deficit to 21-18, but the Falcons slowly pulled away and led by as many as 13 late in the half.

The Muskies tried to challenge in the second half and on three occasions knocked the lead down to single digits, the last time when Kayla Clark (Fr.-West Bend, Wis.) made two free throws to make it 49-40 with 11:39 to play. But Concordia broke the game open for good in the next five minutes, going on a 16-2 run for a 65-42 lead.

Leah Eisner (Sr.-Stevens Point, Wis.) led Lakeland with nine points, five rebounds and two blocked shots. Vashia Gordon (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis.) added eight points and five rebounds, while Liz Morrison (So.-Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) scored six points off the bench and led the team with six rebounds. Bailey Grayvold (Fr.-Norway, Mich.) added six points and a team-high five assists.

Katie Luethe led Concordia with 18 points and seven rebounds, Tori Riechers scored 14 points, and Camille Parsons added 13 points and a game-high eight assists. Megan Coenen also added 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Muskies are home again Saturday against Benedictine (Ill.) University at 4:15 p.m. in the team's final home game before the new year.
