Muskie women rally with big second half to top Stars

The Lakeland College women's basketball team scored 57 second half points to rally from a halftime deficit and defeat Dominican (Ill.) University 85-73 on Saturday at the Igini Sports Forum.

Leah Eisner (Sr.-Stevens Point, Wis.) scored 16 points to lead five players in double figures as the Muskies evened their overall record at 3-3. Lakeland also is now 2-1 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.

The Muskies shot 53.8% in the second half, making 15 of 28 field goals, including all four of their three-point attempts. Lakeland also hit 23 of 26 free throws in the half, finishing 34-of-39 for the game (87.2%).

Dominican (0-7 overall, 0-3 NACC) started strong and led by as many as seven points in the first half. The Stars took a 31-28 lead into halftime, but Lakeland took the lead back early and went ahead for good on a layup by Bailey Grayvold (Fr.-Norway, Mich.) making it 37-35. The Muskies controlled the final 20 minutes, eventually leading by as many as 20 points.

Grayvold finished with 13 points, while Vashia Gordon (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis.) added 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Trista Barron (So.-Escanaba, Mich.) and Liz Morrison (So.-Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) also added 10 points. Barron and Kayla Clark (Fr.-West Bend, Wis.) also both finished with five assists.

The Muskies finished shooting 45.1% for the game (23 of 51) and out-rebounded the Stars 39-27. Lakeland also overcame 30 turnovers.

Katie Budz led Dominican with 16 points. The Stars shot 42.1% (24 of 57) and also finished with five players scoring in double figures.

Lakeland returns to action Thursday night when it hosts rival Concordia University Wisconsin in a conference game at 7 p.m. at the Woltzen Gymnasium.
