RIVERDALE, NY (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) - The SUNY College at Old Westbury women's basketball team dropped its second-consecutive Skyline Conference game on Saturday afternoon to the Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins 77-70. The Panthers now sit at 5-14 on the season (3-5 Skyline) while the Dolphins improve 13-4 (6-2 Skyline).
The hosts stormed out of the gate, claiming the game's first eight points. But the Panthers rallied to knot the score up at 16 with 10:41 remaining in the half. After further jousting, Old Westbury eventually took over the lead with 5:46 remaining (23-22), but a late surge by the Dolphins saw them on top 39-34 at the half.
Mount Saint Vincent increased its lead to 10 on three occasions early in the second half and eventually reached a game-high 12-point lead with 8:55 remaining. The Panthers were never able to recover and the Dolphins closed out the second half up seven points.
Old Westbury outscored its opponents in second-chance scoring (25-17) and even out-rebounded its opponent 59-53. But it would eventually be bench points (14-8) and the clutch three-point shooting of Brittany Lee (4-5) that catapulted Mount Saint Vincent to victory.
