Dover, Del. – Marymount University senior guard Katelyn Fischer broke another women's basketball program record, recording her 192nd career three-pointer in a 66-55 victory over Wesley in Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night. Fischer recently also broke the MU record for career assists and moved into the top-five in scoring with her 1,500th point.
Marymount improves to 12-6 overall and 8-2 in league play.
Fischer led the Saints with a game-high 27 points to go with eight assists, three rebounds and three steals. Daja Belt added nine points while Kievanna Lacey chipped in eight.
Needing one to tie the record and two to break it, Fischer got the milestone out of the way early courtesy of back-to-back-to-back trifectas to take an 11-8 lead five minutes into the game. Marymount went on to hit five straight three pointers, with Theresa Wicks adding a pair after Fischer's trio, to lead 17-8 at the 11:46 mark. The Saints would hold their nine point lead the majority of the half before a Samantha Kane putback at the buzzer gave MU a 28-20 lead going into halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Wolverines (4-14, 1-8 CAC) struck first with a three-pointer to cut their deficit to five. Marymount wasn't able to pull away as Wesley stayed with the Saints shot-for-shot to eventually pull within just three at 53-50 with 3:45 remaining behind back-to-back three-pointers. The Saints held Wesley to just one field goal the rest of the way and a 6-2 run put MU back up by multiple possessions as they closed out the game at the free throw line.
Roniece Williams led Wesley with 13 points.
Marymount returns to action on Saturday as it travels to face rival Mary Washington in CAC play.
