Providence, R.I.-The Rhode Island College women's basketball team opened the second half with a 14-2 run to break open a close contest en route to a 72-43 victory over UMass Dartmouth in Little East Conference action on Tuesday night at The Murray Center.

The Anchorwomen registered their seventh straight win to improve to 13-5 on the season, which includes a 7-1 mark in the conference circuit. The Corsairs saw their two-game winning streak come to an end as they slip to 11-7 overall and 4-4 in the league.

Sophomore forward Vandell Andrade (Providence, RI) posted a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Anchorwomen, while also chipping in with five steals. Freshman guard Alex Moore (West Newbury, MA) netted a game-high 15 points to go along with four assists and three steals, while senior guard Cara Paladino (Arlington, MA) poured in 13 points. Sophomore guard Michelle Lagrotteria (Niantic, CT) completed the Anchorwomen contingent in double digits with 10 points and also added five assists, four steals and three rebounds.

Senior forward Erika Bornemann (Canton, MA) and freshman forward Megan Ronaghan (North Attleboro, MA) each recorded 13 points to pace UMass Dartmouth. Bornemann pulled down six rebounds, while Ronaghan registered three blocks. Freshman guard Ashley Brown (Fairhaven, MA) produced seven points and three assists for the visitors.

Leading by two, 32-30, coming out of the break, Rhode Island College took command of the contest with a decisive, 14-2, run. Moore ignited the surge with a layup, while Lagrotteria followed with a three-pointer. Freshman forward Christian McDuffy (Brockton, MA) connected on a basket and senior guard Stephanie Prusko (Lincoln, RI) netted four unanswered points. Moore capped the run from the charity stripe, making both of her attempts to give the hosts a 48-30 lead.

Bornemann tried to stem the tide with a triple, making it, 48-33, with 14:42 remaining, but the Anchorwomen closed out the game on a 26-10 run to put away the Corsairs.

Rhode Island College shot 47 percent (30-for-64) from the field, while limiting UMass Dartmouth to a 36 percent (16-for-44) shooting effort.

The Anchorwomen went 27 percent (3-for-11) from beyond the three-point arc and 75 percent (9-for-12) from the charity stripe, while UMD shot eight percent (1-for-13) from downtown and 71 percent (10-for-14) from the free throw line.

RIC held a 38-27 advantage on the glass, while forcing 29 Corsair turnovers. The Anchorwomen also corralled 17 steals as a team, but committed 18 miscues of their own.

Prusko finished with nine points and three assists for RIC, while McDuffy totaled four points, five rebounds and two steals.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play at UMass Boston on Saturday, Feb. 1 (1 p.m.).
