LC Women Outlast Shenandoah 60-53

WINCHESTER, VA –The Lynchburg College women's team held on Saturday for a 60-53 victory Saturday at Shenandoah University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game. The win keeps LC atop the conference standings with a 7-1 mark in league action.

Lynchburg led 25-19 at the break, but SU quickly pulled ahead 30-29 five minutes into the second half. LC opened a nine-point edge with seven minutes left and led the rest of the way, but had to hit key free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win.

Junior forward Lauren Penley received her first start of the season and responded with game highs of 16 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. She converted 7-of-11 shots from the floor and Shannon Allan tied Penley for the game-high with 16 points and added four rebounds and four steals. Chaney Forbush posted 10 points and eight rebounds while Ann Dorris added seven points.

Crystal Petrus delivered a team-best 15 points for Shenandoah (7-10/4-4 ODAC). Imani Heggins had 13 points, four rebounds, three steals and two blocks for SU while Ashley McGhee and Holly Chittenden each had 10 points. Lynchburg enjoyed a 39-29 rebound advantage in the contest.

The Hornets (10-7) host Roanoke College Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in more ODAC action.
