Women's Basketball Drops Conference Bout With Waynesburg

Jan. 25 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College women's basketball program (4-13, 3-7 PAC) suffered a 62-40 setback to Presidents' Athletic Conference opponent, Waynesburg University (9-8, 7-3 PAC) on Saturday afternoon in the Hummel Field House.

The Bison captured the first lead of the contest, when Sami Schott (Caldwell, Ohio/Shenandoah) drained her first three-point attempt of the game to take a 3-0 lead in the opening minute.

The team's then traded the lead six times, with neither side holding more than a three-point advantage over the next 11 minutes. The Bison regained a one-point advantage (12-11) with 8:06 remaining in the half when Mikyla Tipton (Wellsville, Ohio/Wellsville) notched a fast-break layup. That, however, would prove to be Bethany's last lead of the contest.

Over the last eight minutes of the first frame, the Yellow Jackets would embark on a 15-3 run, taking a 26-15 advantage into the halftime break.

Schott led all scorers in the first half, notching 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting. Tipton chipped in the rest of the scoring for the Bison, finishing the first stanza with five points.

The second half would not go in Bethany's favor, as the Bison saw the deficit grow to as many as 25-points before the game ended with the final score at 60-42 in favor of Waynesburg.

Offensively, Schott notched a game-high 12 points while adding seven rebounds and four steals on the day. Tipton finished with eight points, while Taylor Verrico (Monaca, Pa./Quigley) added seven, all in the second half.

Bethany will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 29, as they play host to Geneva College. The Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
