The Baruch College Bearcats lost a 70-67 CUNYAC contest to rival Hunter College Hawks on Wednesday evening at the Hunter Sportplex.

The visiting Bearcats (11-6, 7-2 CUNYAC) controlled most of the action and led 36-22 with 6:32 left in the first half, but the Hawks (7-11, 4-5 CUNYAC) went on a 19-5 run in the final six minutes to cut the advantage to 41-36 at halftime.

The Bearcats continued to lead throughout parts of the second half and managed to build up a 10 point lead with 11:00 minutes left on a three-pointer by newcomer Veronica Ganzi for a 52-42 advantage.

However, the Hawks slowly chipped away at the lead and took advantage of a shooting drought by the Bearcats to tie the game three different times in the final minutes.

The Bearcats led 67-65 on a layup by Sheridan Taylor with 57 seconds left, but the Hawks finished that minute connecting on 5-of-6 free throws to walk off with the victory.

Taylor led the team with a double-double of 20 points, 11 rebounds and four blocked shots. Iyana was the only other player to reach double-figure scoring with 10 points, six rebounds, six assists and one steal.

Francess Henry (9) and Malika Rose Abdusalaam (10) combined for 19 rebounds, while Ganzi had a solid debut with nine points off the bench.

Kristen Podlovits also scored nine points and Lynda Fields contributed six points and three assists.

Baruch will continue their conference schedule on Friday night with a 5:00 pm CUNYAC contest uptown at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
