Mariners Win Third Straight; Top Chargers

CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime won its third straight game, and fourth consecutive conference contest, with a 43-29 win over Colby-Sawyer in a North Atlantic Conference women's basketball game Saturday. The Mariners improved to 7-6 overall, 5-2 NAC, while the Chargers fell to 6-9, 5-3.

Cheyenne Malloy, Kari Jones and Leah Jackson each scored nine points to pace Maine Maritime. Jackson finished with 10 rebounds and Jillian Perron pulled down seven.

Kelsey Cahill scored a team-high six points for Colby-Sawyer and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Evened at 2-2 five minutes into the first half, Maine Maritime used a 6-0 run to take an 8-2 lead with 12:37 left in the opening half. Jackson and Kristi Willey each netted three points in the run for MMA. The Chargers made it a four point, 8-4, game when Marquis MacGlashing made a layup with 11:31 on the clock. The Mariners answered with an 11-1 run to lead 19-5 with 4:56 before halftime. Malloy scored six in the run. Mackenzie Vosburgh and Ashley Shine one and Jones one for Maine Maritime. 

The Mariners led by as many as 13 after a pair of Vosburgh free throws made it 21-8 and went into the break ahead 21-11.

Maine Maritime opened the second half with a 11-4 run to lead 32-15 with 13:54 left in the game. Malloy scored three in the run, while Perron, Jackson, Jones and Vosburgh each netted a pair of points. The Mariners led by as many as 20, 40-20, after a Jones three with 7:57 left, while the Chargers got as close as 14, 43-29, on two MacGlashing free throws with 23 seconds left.

Maine Maritime returns to action next weekend at Lyndon on Friday and Johnson on Saturday.
