#19 Titans Storm Back For Road Win Over Blue Devils

UW-Oshkosh was down 13 points before dominating the second half for a 74-62 victory over UW-Stout on Saturday (Jan. 18) in Menomonie.

The Titans (15-1/6-1 WIAC), ranked 19th by D3hoops.com, scored 54 points during the second half after just 20 in the first. UW-Oshkosh made 30 free throws in the final 17 minutes.

Katelyn Kuehl sank 13 free throws on her way to 16 points and eight rebounds. Taylor Schmidt also tallied 16 points while adding five assists and three steals.

Both teams were ice cold to start the day, with UW-Stout making 1-of-12 shots and UW-Oshkosh hitting 1-of-11. The Blue Devils did their damage at the foul line, with Jenna Goldsmith's free throw taking a 9-4 lead.

Sami Schoeder got things going with back-to-back triples that put UW-Stout ahead, 17-7, with 9:37 left the first half. Sara Bedford then knocked down a long-distance jumper to gain the 26-13 advantage.

Trailing 32-20 at intermission, the Titans went on a 7-0 run to begin the second stanza. Following jumpers from Schmidt and Marissa Selner, Kuehl buried a three-pointer to make it 32-27. UW-Stout settled down and eventually increased its margin to 40-32 on Haley Froehlich's hoop with 12:50 remaining.

Maggie Novak splashed a triple to pull within five. The Titans then tied the score, 40-40, on a pair of free throws from Kuehl. UW-Oshkosh grabbed its first lead of the contest (55-54) when Schmidt finished a three-point play with 4:50 on the clock.

The Titan defense continued to get stops and takeaways. Schmidt proceeded to hit a lay-up in traffic and drew the foul for a three-point play. Stecker tacked on another three-point play with 1:36 left to put UW-Oshkosh ahead, 65-56.

Stecker has now scored 56 points in her last 53 minutes of action. She finished with 11 points and six rebounds, as Alex Richard came off the bench to mark eight points and five rebounds.

UW-Oshkosh compiled 38 percent (18-47) shooting overall, including 2-of-16 accuracy from downtown (13 percent). The Titans nailed 36-of-47 free throws (77 percent) while committing 15 turnovers.

The Blue Devils shot 36 percent (20-55) from the field, 33 percent (3-9) behind the arc and 76 percent at the charity stripe (19-25). Sami Schoeder topped the team with 10 points and three steals, to go with nine rebounds from Brea Boomer.

The Titans will visit UW-Eau Claire next Wednesday (Jan. 22).
