Emory University senior Savannah Morgan notched a team-high 22 points, including a pair of go-ahead free throws with under a second left in overtime, to keep the ninth-ranked Eagles' perfect season alive with a 70-68 win over the Carnegie Mellon University Tartans on Friday night at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.

With the score tied at 68 and three second left in the first overtime, Carnegie's Gabrielle West missed a three-point attempt.  Morgan secured the rebound for Emory, and was fouled by Lindsay Poss, setting up the game-winning free throws attempts.  The Eagles' point guard would drain both, and Carnegie's long inbound attempt after the free throws was stolen away by senior Gabi Whitmer, ending the game.

With the win, Emory kept its undefeated season alive, improving to 13-0, including a 2-0 mark in University Athletic Association (UAA) games to tie for first in the conference with Washington University (Mo.) and New York University.  Carnegie dropped to 9-4 overall, including a 0-2 mark in the UAA.

The game-ending free throws were not the only clutch shots of the evening for Morgan.  Trailing by three with six seconds left in regulation, Morgan drained a three-pointer to tie the game at 60 points apiece.  She then stole away Carnegie's ensuing inbound pass, and set up a shot attempt for Emory sophomore Khadijah Sayyid.  Sayyid was fouled, but could not convert either of the free throws, sending the contest into overtime.

The latter portion of the game was a stark contrast from the first half, which saw the Eagles build a game-high 10 point lead with 1:39 left to play in the stanza.  However, the Tartans would stretch a 14-2 run into the second half of action, building a four-point lead over Emory.  It would continue to be a back-and-forth affair for the remainder of the contest.

Morgan finished the game with 22 points on an eight-for-18 shooting effort from the field, while adding on a team-best five assists, in addition to seven rebounds.  Sayyid chipped in with 11 points, while senior Hannah Lilly registered 10, and Whitmer picked up a team-best eight rebounds.

For Carnegie Mellon, Lisa Murphy finished with a game-high 36 points and 14 rebounds, while Liza Otto added 12 rebounds, and Poss contributed with 11 points.

Emory will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, continuing their UAA slate against Case Western Reserve University at 2:00 PM at the Woodruff Physical Education Center.
