BRIDGEWATER, Mass.—Coming off their worst performance of the season, UMass Boston women's basketball (9-5) turned in a dominant showing on the road with a 64-39 win over Bridgewater State University (7-8) Thursday night at the Tinsley Center. 

Sophomore Olivia Murphy (Canton, Mass.) and point guard Andrea Suffredini (Milford, Mass.) led the way for UMass Boston, with each player contributing a double-double. Murphy pulled down a season-high 24 rebounds, to go along with her game-high 19 points. Suffredini reached double-digit assists (10) for the first time all season, while pouring in 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting.

Senior Shelby Buck (Greenfield, Ohio) added nine points on three 3-pointers in just 13 minutes of action, while Katrina Edwards (Springfield, Mass.) chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds in her first collegiate start. 

The Beacons dominated the contest on both sides of the ball, knocking down 43.1 percent (25-58) of their shots, while holding the host Bears to just 14-60 (23.3 percent) from the field. UMass Boston's defense held Bridgewater State  were held under 40 points at home for the first time in ten years (61-39 loss to Eastern Connecticut in 2004).

In addition to playing stingy defense, UMass Boston used a total team effort on the boards to double up Bridgewater State 58-29 for the game. 

After a slow first half in which UMass Boston led for all but the first two minutes, the Beacons headed to the break with a 27-19 advantage.

UMass Boston would turn the game into a blowout in the second half on the back of an 18-0 run. The Bears opened the half scoring six of the first 11 points to cut the deficit to 32-25 with 15:45. That's when UMass Boston turned in one of their best five-minute stretches of the season.

Edwards opened the run with a layup and Buck pushed the lead to double-digits for the first time all night with her first 3-pointer. Suffredini added a layup at 14:17 to push the lead to 39-25 and force the first of two Bears' timeouts during the run.

After an Edwards' block gave the Beacons the ball right back, Buck knocked down consecutive 3-pointers to push the lead to 20 and force Bridgewater State to use a second timeout.

UMass Boston wasn't done though, as Murphy made one of two free throws and Edwards and Murphy traded layups to push the lead to 50-25 with 10:27 to play.

While the Beacons failed to piece together a second of run of epic proportions, the Beacons pushed the lead to 30 (64-34) on a Brittany Moore (Billerica, Mass.) layup with 50 seconds to play.

With the win, UMass Boston snapped a two-game losing streak at the hands of the Bears and a season-high three-game losing streak this year.

UMass Boston will look to build off the big win Saturday when they host Little East Conference foe Western Connecticut State University at 1 p.m.
