(NEW WILMINGTO, Pa.) - Sophomore guard/forward Sydney Moss (St. Albans, W.Va./Boone County (Ky.)) and junior forward Jenny Burgoyne (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) combined for 57 points tonight (Wednesday, January 15, 2014) to lead the sixth-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team to a 116-49 win over Westminster College in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania.
With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 14-0 overall and 7-0 in the PAC. The 116 points scored is a school record for points in a game. With the loss, the Titans fall to 7-7 overall and 4-3 in the PAC.
Thomas More led by as many as 52 points in the first half as it built a 70-22 lead at halftime. The 70 points were a school record for points in a half an eight points shy of the NCAA Division III single half record. For the half, the Saints shot 65.8 percent from the field (25-of-38), including 50 percent from behind the arc (five-of-10) ad forced 18 Titan turnovers. Burgoyne led the Saints in scoring at the half with 23 points.
The Saints out-scored Westminster, 46-27, in the second half as they crossed the century mark for the second straight game and won the game, 116-49.
For the game, the Saints shot 50.6 percent from the field (42-of-83), including 56 percent from behind the three-point arc (14-of-25) and forced 32 turnovers.
Moss led all scorers with 33 points and Burgoyne finished the game with 24 points. Two other Saints reached double-figure scoring as senior guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) and sophomore guard Olivia Huber (Woodlawn, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) each finished with 11 points. Burgoyne led the team on the boards with nine rebounds, while Moss added eight. Senior guard Devin Beasley (Burlington, Ky./Conner) set the Thomas More single-game record for assists with 13. Huber led the team in steals with six.
The Saints return to action on Saturday (January 18) when they travel to Latrobe, Pennsylvania to play Saint Vincent College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside the Carey Center.
