Brooklyn Takes Third Straight, Drops Hunter 61-55

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team captured their third straight win, their seventh in eight games, on Wednesday, defeating visiting Hunter, 61-55. The Bulldogs improve to 10-4, 5-2 CUNYAC, while the Hawks fall to 6-10, and 3-4 in league play.

Brooklyn opened a 6-2 lead to begin play asMegan CampbellAsia Foster and T'Keyah Francis each got baskets inside, but Campbell was whistled for her second foul just 1:47 into play and sat for the remainder of the half.

With Campbell out, Hunter went on a 5-0 run, taking a brief 7-6 lead, getting a three-pointer from Nicole Lenard and two free throws from center Dimitra Thomopoulos.

BC would come right back with a bucket from Francis to regain the lead and spark a 11-0 run that would give the Bulldogs a 17-7 advantage. Hunter would never lead again in the contest, but they would not go quietly either.

After falling behind by 11, the Hawks would go on a 9-2 run to end the half, capped by a Kristen Markoe three-pointer, cutting the Bulldogs' lead to four, 25-21.

BC's Nicole Francomano started the second half scoring by scoring on a drive to the basket to balloon the lead to six, but then Hunter would come right back on a 6-2 run to cut the lead to two, 29-27, with 17:29 remaining.

Brooklyn immediately responeded by attacking the paint, as a Francis basket was followed by two Mann buckets, building the home team's advantage back to eight.

Hunter fought right back with a 9-2 run of their own to pull within one point, but a Carissa WIlliams pullup jumper, followed by baskets by Francis and Campbell would push the Bulldogs lead back to seven, 43-36, with 10:43 remaining.

Over the next eight minutes, the teams traded baskets with the Brooklyn lead hitting as many as nine, but never falling below four, which was what the advantage became with 2:21 remaining when Hunter's Thomopoulos scored to pull the score to 57-53.

Williams would follow with the game's biggest basket, a three-pointer with 1:22 remaining to give her team the seven point advantage and ultimately clinch the victory.

Brooklyn outrebounded Hunter 54-38 and won the turnover battle 13-11.

Four Bulldogs were in double figures, led by Francis' 13 points and game-high 13 rebounds off the bench. Mann scored 12, while also coming in as a reserve. Williams added 12, while Campbell scored 11 points and had a game-high three blocked shots in limited minutes.

Francomano had a game-high seven assists in the win.

Up next for BC will be another key conference game, this time on the road, as the Bulldogs will travel Uptown to take on the Beavers of CCNY in a 5 pm tip-off on Friday.
