EUREKA, Ill. – Eureka College senior guard Caty Eeten (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) hit a jumper along the base line for her 1,689th career point with 7:55 left in the first half of Saturday's game, breaking the record for most points scored by a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball player and sparking the Red Devils in a 76-59 SLIAC victory over Fontbonne at the Reagan Center.

Eeten entered the game with 1,683 points, needing six points to break the previous record of 1,688 held by Principia's Christina Speer (2005-09).  Eeten made field goals at the 19:15, 11:43 and 7:55 marks of the opening half to break the 24-year-old conference's record.  Saturday's game was the 80th career appearance for Eeten, who broke the all-time Eureka scoring record on Nov. 30, 2013.

The Red Devils got off to a strong start Saturday, opening up a 7-0 lead behind buckets from Eeten, senior forward Lauren Schwanke (Eureka, Ill./Eureka H.S.) and sophomore guard Emily Camden (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central H.S.) less than three minutes into the game.

The Griffins bounced back with a 9-1 burst and snagged their only lead of the day when Lauren Willis connected from long range for a 9-8 edge at the 15:18 mark of the first period.  The hosts answered with a 3-pointer from junior guard Jenna Brooks (Peoria, Ill./Limestone H.S.) on the ensuing possession and would never trail again.  Camden broke the game's second and final deadlock with a 3-pointer for a 18-15 lead with 9:20 remaining before halftime and EC would never look back.  The advantage swelled to nine points on three different occasions later in the half, but the Griffins were able to cut their deficit back to five, 37-32, before intermission.

Eeten scored on the Red Devils' first possession of the second half, triggering an 11-5 surge from the hosts to open the period.  Schwanke's layup at the 17:06 mark gave EC its first double-digit lead, 48-37.  Less than four minutes later, an interior basket by junior forward Kelsey Shoemake (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria H.S.) put the wheels in motion on a 17-2 barrage, allowing EC to claim its biggest lead of the night, 65-42, after Eeten's foul shots with 9:21 left.  Eureka matched the 23-point cushion in the closing minutes of the game before coasting to its fourth SLIAC win of the campaign.

Shoemake delivered an outstanding performance inside for the Red Devils, scoring 20 points and gathering 14 rebounds for the game's only double-double.  Camden tacked on a season-high 14 points, falling two points shy of matching her career-best.  Eeten was the third Red Devil to finish in double figures with 12.  The Red Devils distributed 19 assists as a team and turned 18 FU turnovers into 21 of their 76 points.  All 13 players made an appearance for the Red Devils, 10 of which made at least one field goal.

DeAmbra Pilkington scored 15 points to pace the Griffins, who lost leading scorer Chelsey Freymuth to an apparent ankle injury at the 13:46 mark of the first half.  The Griffins shot just 32 percent (22-for-69) from the field and went 4-for-20 from 3-point range.

Eureka will now turn its attention to league newcomer Iowa Wesleyan for a 6 p.m. tip-off on Tuesday at the Reagan Center.  The Tigers are the lone remaining unbeaten team in league action with a 4-0 record.

NOTES: Eureka now trails the all-time series with Fontbonne, 14-6, but has won five of the last six over the Griffins since January 2012 ... Eureka has won five straight home games.
