Second Half Run Leads SUNY Oneonta Past New Paltz Women's Basketball, 60-42

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – SUNY Oneonta closed out the final 8:45 of the first half with a 23-2 run to post a 60-42 victory over the State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play on Saturday afternoon at the Hawk Center.
 
New Paltz held a 12-10 lead with 9:02 until halftime after sophomore guard Goldie Harrison (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) made a slicing layup in the paint, but the Red Dragons wear on a tear, closing out the half with a 23-2 spurt keyed by the sharpshooting of senior guard Alyshia Crawford who scored all 10 of those 23 points and tallied all of her 12 points in the first half. Oneonta built a 33-14 lead at intermission.
 
The Hawks drop to 2-9, 0-4 in the SUNYAC. Oneonta improves to 9-2, 3-1. New Paltz next heads to SUNY Oswego for a 6:00 p.m. game on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Oneonta visits SUNY Cortland on Jan. 14 at 6 p.m. as well.
 
To start the second half, the Hawks scored the first six points on four free throws by senior forward Jeanette Scott(West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) and an inside bucket by freshman forward Kit Small (Slingerlandsd, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Name) to draw within 33-20. The Red Dragons answered with an 8-2 run, highlighted by a three-pointer by freshman guard Cara Adams that stemmed any New Paltz momentum.  
 
The game was tied three times in the early stages of the first half, the last being at 10-10.  Oneonta's game-changing 23-2 run was highlighted by a 7-of-16 shooting effort from the field and 7-of-7 from the free throw line.  
 
The Red Dragons extended their second half lead to 55-30 with 5:10 to play.
 
Junior guard Ashley Riefenhauser (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./Dobbs Ferry) led New Paltz with nine points. Freshman forward Courtney Irby (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) had eight points and a game-best 13 rebounds.

Oneonta got 12 points each Crawford and Adams. Sophomore guard Bryn Loomis had eight rebounds.
