No. 9-ranked St. Thomas missed a tying shot as time expired and lost 56-54 Saturday at St. Mary's in MIAC women's basketball play.
The Tommies (9-2 overall, 7-1 MIAC) had a nine-game win streak halted.
St. Mary's Courtney Euerle scored the go-ahead basket with seven seconds left to snap a 54-54 tie.
UST had no bench points and was outscored 15-0 from 3-point range by the Cardinals (9-1, 6-1). St. Thomas slipped into second place in the conference as Bethel won again to move to 7-0.
Senior Kelly Brandenberg scored 18 points and junior Maggie Weiers had 16 points and 15 rebounds for UST.
The Toms are home Monday to face first-place Bethel.
