ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — Three days after suffering its first loss of the season, the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team got back on the winning track by defeating Albright 60-57 in a closely contested Commonwealth Conference game Saturday afternoon at Thompson Gymnasium. Taylor Kreider posted her first career 20 point-20 rebound game in the win.

E-town (10-1, 5-1 CC) got off to a sluggish start, beginning the game 0-for-4 from the floor. Albright (7-5, 2-4 CC), meanwhile, jumped ahead 6-2. The Jays responded with a 10-0 run to take the lead, 12-6, on Kendra Beittel's jumper. Forjan created a steal on the defensive end before Beittel canned her two-point basket.

Elizabethtown maintained the lead for most of the half, but relinquished it late. Shannon Thomas' layup propelled the Lions back in front, 28-27, with 2:15 left in the first half. An E-town turnover on the ensuing possession turned into a Meghan Boyle layup, followed by a three-pointer from Thomas as Albright ended the half on a 7-2 spurt to head into the intermission up 33-29.

In the second half, Kreider took control of the boards, grabbing 13 of her career-high 21 rebounds in the final stanza. She also added ten points and finished with 21. Beittel also had ten second-half points for the Jays.

Boyle gave the Lions a six-point advantage, 35-29, after rebounding and putting back a missed jumper. The Blue Jays defense clamped down over the next three and a half minutes, holding Albright scoreless. Rachel Forjan, Kreider and Taylor Alwine all hit two-point baskets in the meantime to knot the game at 35-35.

Trailing 47-43, Beittel and Forjan hit back-to-back treys to give the Jays the lead once more. Up two, E-town had chances to extend the lead, but struggled from the foul line. EC was 2-for-9 in the second half and 6-for-19 in the game.

Kreider hauled in a defensive rebound with 5:44 left in the game and went coast-to-coast to break a 49-49 tie, the start of another 6-0 run for E-town to put them back ahead for good.

Albright cut the lead to three with 15 seconds remaining on the clock on Amanda Tiritilli's layup. Another Elizabethtown missed free throw gave the Lions a last second opportunity to tie the game, but the three-point attempt was no good.

E-town held Albright forward Kelecia Harris, last season's Commonwealth Conference Rookie of the Year, to just eight points and seven rebounds. The Jays out-rebounded the Lions, 48-46.

Beittel (15 points) and Forjan (11 points) joined Kreider in double figures for EC. Kreider also had six steals, four assists, and a block. Beittel had four steals.

After a three-game home stand, the women's basketball team will head out on the road for three straight away from Thompson Gymnasium. The first stop is Monday, January 13 at Lancaster Bible. The game is set to tip-off at 7 p.m.
