Ashland, Va.—The Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball team rounded out their 6 game home opener 6-0. R-MC posted their second consecutive 100+ game after defeating St. Mary's (Md.) 102-86.
The Jackets (6-0, 1-0 ODAC) had a rough start, unable to nail a single field goal in the first 5 minutes. The Seahawks (0-4) kept R-MC to a 15-3 lead for 6 minutes until the Yellow Jackets responded with a 14-2 run to tie at 17-17 with 11:30 remaining in the half. Following a 38-19 run, R-MC led 41-34 to close out the half.
Randolph-Macon kept their momentum in the second period, leading SMCM by as much as 19. Junior Taylor Huber (Ashland, VA / Patrick Henry) led the Macon defense with 28 points on 10-25 from the field, 2 steals, and 3 three-pointers. Sarah Parsons (Glen Allen, VA / J.R. Tucker) added 21 points for her third consecutive 20+ outing. The junior guard tallied 4 three's, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) finished the day with 19 points.
Sophomore Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, VA / Patrick Henry) recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 15 boards. She also notched 2 blocks and 2 steals. The Yellow Jacket points were produced in part by a game-high 7 assists from sophomore guard Khajae Hester (VA Beach, VA / Cape Henry Collegiate).
The Jackets have matched their season win total from a year ago in their first six outings. The ladies look to improve to 7-0 as they travel to Bridgewater College Tuesday, December 3rd for a 7:00 PM ODAC matchup.
