Parsons Records Her 1,000th Career Point as R-MC Splits in Cruzin Classic

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.—Sarah Parsons (Glen Allen, VA / J.R. Tucker) had a game-high 24 points as she achieved her 1,001st career point in R-MC's 84-73 loss to the College of New Jersey today in their final game of the 2013 Cruzin Classic sponsored by Trip Sports.

Coming into today's matchup, Parsons was 23 points shy of 1,000. Her .457 three-point percentage ranks 3rd amongst conference leaders and is currently averaging 20.8 points per game; which is 2nd in the ODAC. The junior guard is also shooting .518 from the field. Parsons continues to be nationally recognized in those categories respectively.

The Glen Allen native also recorded 4 assists, 3 steals, and 3 rebounds on the day. Sophomore Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, VA / Patrick Henry) picked up her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 boards, adding an assist as well. Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, VA / Powhatan) finished the day with 12 points, nailing 4 threes as she shot 4-13 from the field. The sophomore guard also picked up 3 rebounds and 1 assist alongside Khajae Hester (VA Beach, VA / Cape Henry Collegiate) who had a game-high 7 assists. Sophomore forward Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, VA / Amelia Academy) also notched 11 points and 4 boards.

The Yellow Jackets (9-2, 3-0 ODAC) were up 39-34 at the half, ultimately falling as the Lions pulled ahead in the second period. R-MC was out-rebounded 58-36 as TCNJ picked up the decision.

The No. 24 ranked Randolph-Macon women's basketball team looks to improve as they return to Ashland Thursday, January 9th to host Gallaudet University for a 7:00 PM tip-off.
